“This conversation is so important – we are at an inflection point, and what we do matters.” Tim

Men’s mental health is in crisis and it’s time we started talking about it differently.

Tim Hewson, Founder of Mongrels Men and Manbassador for Men’s Mental Health shares his very personal story of how a corporate career and traditional gender role perceptions, led to anxiety and depression – and ultimately the end of his marriage.

Recent global research, spanning 75 studies30 countries, and over 106 million men, has revealed the true impact of relationship breakdown on men’s metal health:

  • Divorced men are nearly three times more likely to die by suicide than married men.
  • Separated men under 34 are eight times more likely to die by suicide.
  • And among young Australian men, relationship breakdown has overtaken mood disorders as the most common trigger.

Ninety-six percent of studies also linked traditional masculine norms like emotional suppression to increased suicide risk.

It’s clear that the old narrative of “suck it up” has failed. What we need now is a culture that encourages men to speak up, to be vulnerable, and to support one another through honest, meaningful conversations. After nearly three decades in corporate leadership, Tim turned his experience toward creating brave spaces, places where men can connect, talk, and heal without judgment.

This episode explores why vulnerability is strength, why connection saves lives, and how redefining masculinity can transform families, workplaces, and communities.
