From Farm to Rooftop – Reimagining How Cities Nourish Communities
Guest: Clint McCrae | Co-Founder, Urban Grounding
Raised in the farming region of south-west Victoria’s Otways, Clint McCrae grew up immersed in a mixed farming enterprise producing beef, dairy, vegetables and seed potatoes for export. His connection with farming and food is so deep it runs through his veins.
He left school after completing senior to do an apprenticeship on the family farm, which afforded Clint to travel the world and live in the United States for four years – experiences that broadened his understanding of global agricultural systems and sustainability challenges.
Now living in the city of Brisbane, he continues to grow what he can in his backyard, something that he wants to replicate across urban landscapes to reconnect people with nutrition, whist greening our concrete jungles.
In 2025 he co-founded Urban Grounding, a company transforming underused rooftops and courtyards into thriving modular micro-farms that grow food, restore biodiversity, and help buildings meet ESG, Green Star, Living Building Challenge and TNFD reporting obligations.
