Commanding a stage has been an adrenaline rush for as long as I can remember.
From ballet and piano recitals in my early years, to taking the lead in stage productions from my teens and singing with live bands or hosting Karaoke – give me a microphone and spotlight! (Actually, the microphone isn’t necessary…).
The first professional stage production for me was “The Vampire Strikes Back”, a theatre restaurant experience that ran over 4 weeks, 3 nights per week – the year was 1994. Such fun! It was also the catalyst in my transition to media. The local radio station was directly opposite the venue and hiring a telemarketer. Foot in door, this quickly led to an Advertising Exec. job, which in turn led to writing ad copy and then voicing commercials, Promotions Management and an on-air gig. Something that would change mine and my children’s lives.
Fast-forward 10 years to Mackay, Queensland, where as a Producer for WIN Television, I’m creating ads for local businesses (LOVE!). An opportunity to get back to radio and an on-air gig in Drive leads to developing my MC skills, which remain highly sought after.
Far from being daunted by performance, during an 8yr stint as Morning’s Presenter on ABC Local Radio, there were more offers for me to ‘speak’, about myself…..hang on, that’s not the same as performance, or is it?
Hosting the first ‘Mackay Women’ TEDx in 2016 as MC, the invitation was extended to speak in 2017 about ‘Connection’ a passion of mine. This is when anxiety reared its head, I was overcome by nerves and heart palpitations. To date the most daunting experience of my life, as I’ve never had to share so much personally, on stage or believe in the value of the content.
I did it anyway, learning how to turn fear into excitement.
2019 launched with an International Keynote Speaking Course, to hone my skills and select my lane. Now all I need to do is follow through, get on the highway and share what I’ve learned about the art of connecting through stories! It’s never been more important. In 2021 I’ve achieved another vocal goal – Audiobook reading, it just goes to show you’re never too old to learn something new. Looking for a versatile, smooth, cosmopolitan voice? Thank you Kim
I have known Kim almost from the inception of Rural Aid back in 2015. Kim is passionate about agriculture, people and thrives on telling the stories of the people she comes across. Kim thrives on bringing the best out of her clients. She is driven to help her clients share their vision and deliver their message through emotional and factual stories, helping bring heart and understanding to everyone touched by her communication. Once Kim is on your team, there ain’t no stopping you. Tracy and I thank you for becoming part of our Rural Aid team.
Australia’s first Regenerative Cane Farming Forum, Ingham QLD 2019.
MC Kim Kleidon was a revelation to what could have been rather a dull interaction, but she deftly tuned her natural, self-deprecating humour to the group, breaking the ice and setting a friendly and inclusive tone to the whole event. When she wasn’t gently organising us, she unobtrusively took video footage, interviewed participants and captured still and audio content. She is obviously a very talented host, but also has a range of skills to be able tell the regenerative agriculture story.
I really enjoyed Kim’s fun style as MC.
I really enjoyed Kim’s fun style as MC. It didn’t take long for me to realise, this isn’t the standard MC I’m used to. I very quickly didn’t want to miss one word or expression. Thanks for making the forum extra enjoyable! (If I get to have a say any time about an MC for any function in the future, I’ll be suggesting Kim.)
I am addicted to gritty narrative…
