EP 7 Michael Ray – Equality and Equity, Advocate for Change

What we teach our Children with Michael Ray [powerpress]

Have you ever thought about the challenges sole parents face?

From financial hardship to the responsibility of day-to-day decisions and discipline, feeling judged, not good enough, or even a failure.

Parenting is challenging enough on so many levels, even loving couples can be unprepared for the major changes when a newborn enters the home.

It can feel overwhelming, daunting, foreign, and very lonely. That’s just what I hear women talking about – now imagine you’re a father in his 50’s, raising a daughter, alone from 18months old.

It’s not as uncommon as you may think, in fact single-father households are expected to be the fastest growing family demographic in projections of population growth to 2046.

As a sole parent Michael has spent the last 13 years navigating some of the greatest social barricades and stereotypes you could imagine, but he’s now using his experience to advocate not only for men who find themselves in his position, but for women’s equality.

EP 6 Dr Kathryn Murray – Life and Learning

What we teach our Children [powerpress]

Founder of Future Strong Education

Creator of the Brain-SET Environment Formula

The importance of education and its benefits for children and young adults, is widely recognised globally. A good education provides social and emotional development, prospects for employment, national economic outcomes, and improved health rates, whilst fostering confidence, creativity, curiosity and problem solving.

All relevant to human evolution and survival.

When we deliver learning with a one size fits all approach, there are bound to be individual challenges. According to Dr Kathryn Murray, young developing brains vary in their capacity, neuroplasticity, emotional intelligence and comprehension. Therefore, adapted learning environments may be required to accommodate these individual needs.

As the creator of an early childhood pedagogy grounded in research and over 40 years of personal education experience, she credits the Brain-SET Environments Formula with the ability to provide more equitable outcomes.

EP 5 Mackenzie Enchelmaier – Support and Nurture

What we teach our Children [powerpress]

Australian Age of Dinosaurs – Collection Supervisor

What did you dream of becoming when you were a child?
An astronaut, artist, archaeologist, or chef?
Perhaps you wanted to be on tv or the silver screen.

Often parents have other ideas for a child’s future, they may see a distinct trait of success in a specific career or expect a child to follow them into the family business.

A dream left unfulfilled can leave its own scars and a void that is never filled.

A couple of weeks ago I met a young woman whose childhood dream is now her reality.

Mackenzie Jordan Enchelmaier, is the Collection Supervisor at the Australian Age of Dinosaurs Museum of Natural History in Winton, Queensland, Australia.

Raised in a rural area west of Ipswich Queensland, Mackenzie has always been enchanted by nature.

It was 2022 when a once in a lifetime offer, of an internship in Winton changed the course of her career – when I asked Mackenzie how she became so deeply connected to Australia’s dinosaurs she was reminded of a family trip that set the whole story in motion.

EP 4 Rowena Hardy – Security and Trust

[powerpress]

Co-Founder Minds Aligned

Humans are holistic beings, meaning that we are made up of complex systems, which are integrated and rely on each other to function at optimal levels. Treating conditions based on this approach considers our physical, psychological, emotional, social, and spiritual health.

Many health practitioners are now acutely aware that an imbalance in our nervous system for example could affect our physical, mental, and emotional homeostasis.

Maslow’s hierarchy of needs is a theory based on human priorities for food, shelter, security, love & belonging, self-esteem, and self-actualisation.

For a baby, basic needs are the priority, food, shelter, security, and love.

When those needs aren’t met people can experience a range of negative health issues, including depression, anxiety, disconnection, anger, loneliness, poverty and more.

Over the last couple of decades, Coach, Counsellor, and Facilitator, Rowena Hardy has explored and mastered various tools and techniques with a focus on supporting people to become more self-aware, identify where change is needed, and choose to take responsibility for every part of their life, making positive choices that help them to achieve what they truly want.

EP 3 Philippa Scott – Love and Respect

[powerpress]

The Family Architect

Love and respect form the foundation of relationships, something Phillipa Scott is devoted to helping people achieve as they plan a family.

As a doula with a degree in social science majoring in sociology, Philippa experienced first-hand the effects of birth trauma for new parents, recognising that those without a village of support often struggled to cope post birth.

Furthering her study to become a Childbirth Educator and TRTP Practitioner (The Richards Trauma Process), I discovered that the greatest influence on her career path was her own parenting experience.

Her insights into common challenges we all face in guiding young minds, will inspire you to think differently about parenting styles, discipline, modelling, and our ability to adopt a new reality by reframing our past.
