“I’m not talking about wrapping kids in bubble wrap, I’m saying age-appropriate risk is important – allowing them to get online is important, but we have to teach them the skills in early childhood…” Kari Sutton
A recent ‘Lost Boys’ report from The Centre for Social Justice in the UK has found that early online access to adult and violent content is shaping vulnerable minds with unintended consequences to individuals and society; especially boys.
We can’t prevent our kids entering the digital world, but we can delay it and teach them how to critically evaluate information. It’s our responsibility as parents and carers. Kari Sutton, an Author, Speaker and Education Consultant has worked in education for more than 30 years; combined with her experience as a parent, she’s compiled an excellent resource, for anyone around children, in ‘Raising a Mentally Fit Generation’.
Kari believes we should all be committed to our mental fitness as much as our physical fitness…starting in childhood. In this episode we explore the impact of our own emotional state on those around us and how checking in with ourselves before we engage can help calm a situation.
Self-regulation is a critical skill to develop for life; you’ll learn why in this episode.
