From humble beginnings in western Queensland to building an orphanage in Kenya, Cathy Booth has lived a story defined by hope and compassion.

As a young girl, Cathy often told her mother that one day she wanted to work in an orphanage. That dream took root and grew stronger with every life experience from living in Papua New Guinea, where she witnessed poverty firsthand, to volunteering in Kenya, where she saw the devastating impact of AIDS leaving countless children abandoned and alone.

In a country without the social safety nets we take for granted in Australia, Cathy saw not only suffering but also hope a hope she refused to let die. Her maternal instinct and unshakable compassion became the foundation for Umoja Orphanage Kenya, a home that has given children not just shelter and education, but love, belonging, and a future

Cathy Booth’s journey reminds us that compassion often begins in the humblest of places in the lessons of a small-town childhood, in watching parents quietly give what little they had, and in the courage to act on a dream that never faded.
